Tow Vehicle Requirements for R27 OB

I reached out to a local EZ-Loader dealer here on the Chesapeake to request a trailer quote for our 2018 R27OB and was told the trailer needed to be ordered through the Ranger Tug (RT) Factory or a RT Dealer. This seemed odd, so checking here to see where others have purchased their trailers. Also curious if there's anything unique about the R27OB EZ-Loader spec'd at the factory new (load distribution, etc), or if any dual or tri-axle trailer within weight capacity would work.

Greatly appreciate any feedback.

Yep, I still like the interior of the rams better then ford or gm. That just my opinion, do not want to start a truck debate on boat forum 😀

It's all in jest. But one of our dogs is named Mopar, just say'n... haha 😀

I have a 2015 2500Hd I bought new. It has the gas 6.0 It tows my 25 SC, fifth wheel and anything else I hook to it with ease. I normally trade every 3 years or so but GM was coming out with a 6.6 gas that had lots of promise so I waited, then covid hit. In April I ordered a new 2500HD with the 6.6 gas 401 HP 464 lbs ft of torque. I'm still waiting. GM has finally picked up my order so it will be built. The dealer is saying look for March/April that will be one year. The only reason I bit the bullet they kept making me offers on my pristine 2015 with 88k. They gave me more than 3/4 what I paid 7 years ago, and it was time. I'm a contractor, had a CDL for 45 years. I use the truck. I pull job trailers, haul lumber, pull a fifth wheel with RZR in tow. Haul a TC, dump trailer, JD tractor etc. IMO most people do not need diesel. I sure don't. The new diesel are emission choked time bombs waiting to implode. My neighbor hauls RVs for a living, he is on 4 trucks in 2 years GM and Dodge. He says he won't buy a ford. The new gas trucks have plenty of power and get decent fuel economy. They are reliable. My 15 has only had oil changes. If someone is going to do like Jim here and haul a heavy boat over the mountians down to AZ, FL, all over the country. A diesel might make sense. If your'e going to Florida once a year get a gas and spend that 10k on some other toys. I just hope my new one gets here before I need new tires, they are factory original.

Just pulled the trigger on a ram 2500. Tow rating comes it at a little shy of 17K. Has 4 wheel drive for those slippery boat ramps. They are quoting 12-18 weeks for delivery, it’s now a race between cutwater and ram to see witch one arrives first

MOPAR or NoCar! Lol. 🙂
Exactly!

I agree diesels are unpleasant and unrefined. I would be happy with a gasoline motor, but I get diesels because when I’m hauling the Ranger or our Airstream I can stop at a Pilot, Loves, Flying J, etc. easily. Getting gasoline with our boat’s 40’ long triple axle trailer would suck at most locations off the interstates.

When I was researching the ram 2500, I noticed that the version with the 8’ bed had the option of a 50 gallon gasoline tank, you a fair distance with 50 gallons. Unfortunately I have issues parking a rig that long in the city, so I’m sticking with the 6’ bed with the measly 30 gallon tank. If it’s anything like my current truck, it will get around 10mpg while towing, maybe a bit less.

My 2020 RAM 2500 6.4L gets between 8 and 10 mpg, depending on conditions, towing our 2021 R-23.

I tow my are R31 CB with a 2019 ram 3500 diesel. I got a little over 8 miles per gallon.

I tow an R31CB with a 2019 Ram 2500HD diesel. Pulls like a dream! While the extra length and bigger gas tank would be nice, I’m already within 900 lbs of my GVWR with a full tank and driver aboard. I’d prefer to save the weight for more gear or people!
