I broke my c26 p79s transducer and need to replace it. Getting to it from the shower sump is impossible for me and is there another way to get to it. Can the steps be removed? Access from the storage/second sleeping area ?
If not what would be the best place to re install the p79s as I cannot get my hands in that small space to repair or replace.
Not enough space near shower pump for both of them.

Transom mount on starboard side ? In hull in engine compartment ? Another hidden area I don't know about?
Fishing is not my thing just not running aground is what I need the depth finder for. And when in use I am going slow.
So high speed performance is of no concern to me. If transom type is ok for my needs where would be the best spot.
Starboard side left of trim tab or right of trim tab. Thanks

Honestly the best location is where it is at. It is tight in the forward hull area where the shower sump is located but no matter where you put it in the bow it's going to be tight. The Cutwaters Step hull would require the transducer to be forward the step in order to get clean undisturbed water under the transducer. If you are remounting a new transducer and cup, you can move it forward a few inches to get a bit more clearance. I would be hesitant to do a transom mount. There is a lot going on back there. Thruster, trim tabs ,prop tunnel and the lifting strakes will all cause a lot of turbulent water and cause false depth readings.

I think you have to move the water tank out of the way to have a chance of running a new cable to a new unit.

another option is to cut the cable and use the old cable with a new transducer. they sell a water tight junction box...

Are there any Diagrams, pictures or anything that shows where the space is and what is in the way so I can do this project.
I assume that the steps are not removable in any way or can they be removed ?

I have never pulled a new transducer cable in C26 but I have pulled a water line from the engine compartment to the bow and 12Ga boat cable for an outlet to the cabinet where the TV is located and to the Bow where I installed another TV. There is Two ways of getting a transducer cable run to the helm. My first attempt would be to try to use the assisting transducer cable as a pull wire. If the factory did not cable tie it you may be able to pull the cable from the bilge to the chart plotter behind the mirror in the head. I would attach a couple pull cords to the broken transducers cable ( do not attempt to pull the new transducer cable with the old cable) If you can get a pull cable pulled use it to pull the new cable to the helm. If that doesn't work it is time to pull a couple of bulkhead panels in the cave. Take the three forward monkey fur panels off and the port side panel get access to run a rigid fish tape along the hose for the marine air condensate hose that goes to the shower sump. Once you get the tape thru you can pull the transducer cable into the cave and run the cable behind the water tank across to starboard side and feed the cable to the helm. I had to make this run with a N2K cable for the autopilot. With all the monkey fur panels removed it is fairly easy. I hope this helps.

You are right about that. I had a second fish finder from another boat, so I mounted it’s transducer on the transom. Lasted about 10 miles before being ripped off and the cable torn off by the prop turbulence.

If it was me I would try splicing in a new transducer rather than try running a new cable
