To help out the busy factory guys I did a quick Google.

Assuming you have SeaStar steering http://www.seastarsolutions.com/products/hydraulic-new/ calls for proprietary fluid.

Bennett have always been great with support and are much more flexible (and have a product that is less safety critical). See https://bennetttrimtabs.com/tech-help/faq/ and use any good ATF.

Just bought and have taken possession of a 2014 Ranger tug. The engine hatch did not go up automatically so I added ATF to the reservoir. I noticed that the trim tabs work off the same reservoir and am wondering sense it was empty if I might have a leak with the trim tabs. I did not notice any fluid in the storage compartment but I am not sure how long it has been empty.

Checking the reservoir can be deceiving. Since, as you noted, the trim tabs and the hatch work off the same reservoir, the tabs need to be in the “up” (opposite of “bow down”) position for the hatch to open fully. Otherwise, you will run out of fluid. The fluid level should be checked with the trim tabs fully retracted and the hatch closed in order to not overfill.
