Who is the manufacturer of the usb adapters used on the C288, I am having issues with the usb 3 ports. I have ruled out cable issues. It won’t charge an iPad

Most usb ports like that aren’t designed to charge an iPad. They put out 13 or 18 watts max.

I’ve upgraded my usb ports on my boat to higher wattages, but there’s not enough watts for an iPad.

In an upcoming video I will talk specifically about these… they are awesome for charging tablets and laptops on the boat. We have 2 of them onboard.

Thanks Martin, was afraid of that. The problem is going to be swapping them out, access to the back of them is going to be problematic at best. Not sure why cutwater would put in a usb c plug that would not support the full charging capacity of the usb c spec. Thanks for the links

The higher wattage usb ports I swapped out to still won’t charge our iPad’s. So we use the Anker power banks which work awesome.

I also second the Anker 737 Power Bank! It is a beast and quickly charges my IPADs and laptop.

I use the blue Seas USB ports that are 4.8amps. I am powering a smaller iPad and a larger Samsung tablet.

Depending on what model of USB you have there are lots of great options as others have outlined previously. My vessel came with some front mounted cigarette lighters and USBs which I replaced with these surface mount dual USBs...

2PCS 12V USB Outlet, Dual Quick Charge 3.0 12V Socket USB Charger & PD Type-C (USB C), 12V 24V USB Charger Waterproof Power Socket Adapter Car Charger Adapter for RV Marine Motorcycle Truck Golf Cart https://a.co/d/8xVI0US

Of note, I did put in one of the high output models like on channel surfing to charge large devices such as a Mac from USB-c. Didn't work originally on the standard 12v supply, but after reviewing the product realized the maximum output was only reachable when supplying the unit with 24v. Amazon had a 12v to 24v converter for under $20 that has plenty of power to supply the unit, and just took accessing the back of the panel to install. Now just about anything I can think of can be charged up without issue.

Just a public service announcement. Is you shop Anker through Costco Next this is 20% off.

I think I have an interim solution. I found a USB c car charger (cigarette lighter style) that I’m going to try out, weather permitting, tomorrow. It claims to have a 12 to 24 boost inverter built into it. Am a bit skeptical, but am willing to try it out.

I've had bad luck with that brand - subpar electronics and repeated burnouts/failures. You'll notice that most of the reputable brands don't go near 100w, as they are very prone to fail. It's worth noting that even the 12.9" ipad pro won't take more than 30w, so you might be overdoing it with 100w...

Thanks, good to know the brand is iffy, I hadn’t heard of it before. I tried it out this morning and it worked. The 170W is shared between all three connectors, so the iPad is not pulling any where near 170 watts. Yes, sneaky advertising, but most of them out there do the same thing. I will keep an eye on it.
