Re: Volvo D6-435I

I was advised by the dealer to change both the engine and transmission oil when the engine reached 20 hours. The Volvo manual indicates 100 hours or 12 months but not sure if this is the change interval after the initial 20 hours. The book does not mention the transmission change interval.

What is correct for the initial oil change for both the engine and transmission?
What is the change interval for the transmission?

Thank you,

John

Hello JMC, what your dealer is referring to is the FSI or First Service Inspection. This was required for Volvo engines built before Jan 1, 2016. On all of the 'newer' Volvo engines, the first service is due at 200 hours or 12 months from when the boat first hit the water. This annual maintenance will include: Engine oil and filters, Transmission fluid and filter, Primary and secondary fuel filters, Crankcase ventilation filter, Air filter and a number of inspections. After your first service, the service will be due every 200 hours or 12 months from the date of the service. The service protocol in your operators manual will verify this.

Please give me a call anytime with any questions.

Thank you,

-Tim
