...so I'd like to remove the wine cooler on my '16 C30 and convert the space for storage. Can it be removed without major surgery? Thanks.

It's also an extra frig.

Yea.... as Bob has mentioned or alluded to.... be sure you want to remove this as it does provide extra cooling features.

For our new 2018 R-27 we elected to have the cockpit located refrigerator rather than an ice maker as we've always found we need extra room for refrigeration. If for no other reason the cockpit located refrigerator makes it real easy to access cooled refreshments and food items while in the cockpit with family & friends alike. There's so much storage area in the new 2018 R-27 I feel no need to add extra storage at this time... 😉

It can be removed quite easily. I believe it is held down with brackets on the backside that you should be able to get too. Once you remove you might have to finish off the inside. If you want to send me photos to my email of your installation I can make sure you do it right.

Thanks Andrew! There's a mouse fur panel behind it with no visible fasteners. Is it glued in place?

The panel is screw in place with fasteners buried in the rat fur. once you get it removed there are 2 L brackets that hold the wine cooler in place, this area is base coated so finishing it off should be fairly easy. If you have any questions please feel free to call me

Thanks Ronnie! And I agree, rat fur is a more appropriate term than mouse fur. A rodent by any other name...

As a follow up, I did remove the cooler and gained lots of storage space as a result.
The space is considerably larger than the cooler itself. I didn't bother to refinish the inside, it's reasonably smooth, unfinished (no gelcoat) FRP. I simply vacuumed and wiped down the space. We use it to store our current trash bag and cleaning supplies. With a little imagination it can be transformed into anything you want.
