WiFi Router

I have a Pepwave BR1 Pro Max 5G router. It's 5G/LTE, WIFI (2.4ghz and 5ghz), and runs Starlink. The router draws 6 watts. I run it 24x7 as it supports the CerboGX for remote power monitoring and my security cameras connect through it.

Martin, what TMobile Plan did you get for the SIM? A cell phone Sim or one of the anywhere plans? They seem as much as Starlink.

There is only 1 plan that I'm aware of that T-mobile offers for a "bring your own device" mobile hot spot. 50gb per month for $50. That's what I have.

What is the best marine WiFi router for my Ranger R27 Classic?
Side note: I re-purposed an old cheap Linksys in-home router on my boat by replacing its 115VAC power cord with a 12VDC power cord to eliminate the need for the inverter. Google for something like "DC 5.5x2.1mm Lighter Charging Cable"

What is the best marine WiFi router for my Ranger R27 Classic? I have seen several but I am no expert on the topic. Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated.

Can't say which is best. FWIW here is our StarLink mount and the speed test showing 83 meg down and about 9.5 up. Received it at home and had it running out of the box on the patio in 10 minutes.

StarLink Mini btw.

We went with the T Mobile Home Network. As long as you have cell service this works great. It is much more robust then just your cell phone working as a hotspot. I use it on the boat and it allows me streaming tv and laptop use generally with no issues. We also have a travel trailer and it goes with us there too. When I got it the price was only $30 a month. I believe it it more now.
Hi!

Just saw this. Are you saying the actual Home Internet option? Just use your residential address but then use it on the boat?

Kind of ingenious if so. Would not have considered this!

Not sure what you mean by “Home Internet option” @BOSCBIJI. However, I did want to give a pro-tip: Like @Submariner said, the Peplink is a good option because it allows you to present a consistent WiFi network to the boat, and change the uplink at will from Starlink to Cellular, or even Marina WiFi without having to change anything on the boat. Starlink isn’t cheap, so being able to easily switch to something else is pretty handy.

However, if you do that, there is a great option for the cellular. Google has a cellular service called Google Fi (fi.google.com). They are an MVNO (think reseller of bandwidth) for T-Mobile, so it is actually the T-Mobile network you’d be using. However, with Google Fi, you get Data Only SIMs for free (https://support.google.com/fi/answer/6330195?hl=en). The data you use on them counts against the data on your phone line, but there is no additional cost, and the data can be unlimited. You can get several of them, so you can get one to put in a Peplink router, and one for an iPad, for instance. Free is a lot cheaper than what the other carriers charge. Google Fi also gives you unlimited international data, including on the data only SIMs, so you can use it in Canada, or the Bahamas, or wherever your Tug takes you.
