I have a 2015 C28 with the Imtra windshield wiper motors. I was out the other day in drizzle for about two hours working my wipers both continuously and intermittently. On my way back in the starboard wiper just stopped working. I felt the motor and it was very hot to the touch. After tying up a tried the wiper again and it worked, but the motor was still very hot. I came back after a couple hours and it was cool to the touch and I haven't needed them since. I couldn't find the fuse for the motor and want to troubleshoot this before I get into some real rain. Thanks for any information you can provide.

I had the very same thing happen on my C28. I suggest you examine each motor housings carefully - specifically the motor end caps of both to see if they are the same. I believe you'll find that the armature shaft has traveled on at least one of them and you can see this by noticing a 'bulging' on the armature end cap into the slot that allows access to the mounting screw. It actually had moved so far that I could no longer access the square headed screw that attaches the wiper motor to the windshield frame w/o first Dremeling out the slot. I'm in the process of replacing mine now - hence my question on that topic on the forum. I felt it was a real fire hazard and expressed my frustration/concern with the manufacturer when I ordered new motors. They indicated that they had gone to a more robust metal design but also indicated that, unlike car wipers, these should not be continuously run if it's not raining too hard as they will overheat and cause this issue.

Lesson learned - I did not feel that I had done this to any great extent but I will weigh on the safe side in the future.

Sincerely,
Jon rider

Thanks for the information. This is very helpful, but also very concerning that the wipers are not designed to be operated continuously. Hmm? I better not venture too far outside the Olympic Pen. rain shadow.

Andrew from Ranger sent me the model number (below) yesterday. I added the link from Fisheries Supply.

Imtra Model RC 533011.

I am having a similar concern, but want to replace the entire starboard motor system on my 2012 C26. I see several models out there but am not sure about the specifications. Is this a W12? Would a W12 Wiper Motor, 2.5″ Shaft, 1-5/8″ BLKHD white, 12V be a working option?

Imtra's are terrible. I've almost had two fires with them. The shaft gets corroded, causing the engine to stall and overheat and sometimes short out. They are not designed to be repairable. You can't take them apart past a certain point and are unable to clean or maintain as needed in a marine environment. I've used these Autotex and they are fantastic. I've replaced all of my wiper motors with them. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00G1G1FXI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
