The Yanmar parts manual for the 4BY2 lists as variants the -150, -180, -150Z, and -180Z. The data plate on my engine lists the engine type as a 4BY2-180, but I was curious what was the difference between the -180 and -180Z. Yesterday, I finally found out what it is from a technician at Mastry Engine Center in St. Petersburg: The “Z” variant is equipped with a Bravo sterndrive. I never thought about a diesel-powered sterndrive, but guess the RPM range at which these engines operate would make that possible. Anyway, now you know!
