We are new Cutwater owners, but the few times we have been to Catalina this summer we have met some wonderful Cutwater and Ranger Tug owners. Cutwater...we need an official Rendezvous here 🙂. Anyone else agree?

We have a Ranger Tug and keep it most of the year in San Diego. We trailer the boat to the PNW each Summer and then trailer back to San Diego. We are finishing our PNW tour and will be back in San Diego in a week. I will send you a PM with my contact info and we can coordinate on getting together in SoCal.

Long time since I've been to Avalon. I used to love visiting and scuba diving in the kelp with the Garabaldis.

I'd consider getting the boat hauled down there with ample notice.

Just curious where you keep your boat in the PNW. I am looking to do the same in the summers. Shopping for a RT now and live in Ventura County.

We tow to Anacortes, WA and launch and retrieve the boat using their very reasonably priced lift at Cap Sante Marina. I have always used lifts and have never put our trailer in the water. I store the boat trailer for the Summer in a secure storage facility called On Deck Marine. Cap Sante marina allows long-term, free parking of your truck in their parking lot.
Now to the specifics of your question, we don't have a Summer slip for the boat. There are numerous marinas in the San Juan and Gulf Islands that you can get temporary guest moorage in. We usually go further North into Desolation Sound and the Broughtons, where there are also many marinas. But we prefer to anchor out and go to a marina every 4 or 5 days. You have to plan ahead for a marina around 4th of July and Labor Day weekends, but otherwise there has never been a problem getting a temporary slip. Our first year we booked a three month temp slip near Victoria Canada to use as a base of operations. It was a waste of money as we were seldom there because there are so many beautiful, new areas to explore. Use the Waggoner Guide and the book Best Anchorages of the Inside Passage for info on anchorages and marinas. You will also want to have Ports and Passages available to time your passage through some of the narrow spots. These passages are non-events if you transit them at slack tide.
The PNW is the best boating area we have experienced. We have done this for 4 Summers and have only scratched the surface of all the places to see and anchor. You will love the experience.

Hi, what size is your tug? We have a Cutwater C28 and are thinking of getting a trailer and taking it to PNW next summer! Do you have someone trailer it, or do it yourself? Where do you launch in the PNW and where do you store the trailer. How long do you go for. We have a tundra truck that can tow 11,000...hope that would be enough.
Thanks.

Yes! What boat do you have. I will keep an eye out for it! Love it there!!!!
We have one of the more uncommon models, the Cutwater 30 - Sport Top which is the inboard diesel but instead of a full cabin the entire rear half is a removable Strattaglass enclosure. Probably didn't sell well for the Northern climates, but we love it for down here as it makes everything sooo much more open.60bddec6-46e1-46a4-ba83-0c36b6d50be6-1_all_1476.jpg
We're usually at either Two Harbors, 4th of July, or Cherry Cove.

beautiful!

Add me to the list. We are in Northern Cal and trailer our CW28 all over the west. Catalina has been on our list for awhile now. We just seem to get distracted with other locations. What would be a good jumping off point (launch ramp) coming from the north.

Certainly a loaded question when it comes to Catalina...

If you're planning on going straight to the island and want the shortest travel distance by water it will somewhat depend on what part of the island you wish to visit.

Two Harbors and the surrounding coves at the West end of the island are closest to Redondo Beach (King Harbor) and San Pedro (Cabrillo Marina) but are perfectly accessible from as far south as Huntington and Newport Harbors.

Avalon and the surrounding coves at the East end of the island are closest to Newport Harbor but Huntington and Dana Point are both good alternatives just a bit further away.

Dana Point and Newport Harbor both have a wide range of restaurants, yacht clubs, and other facilities which could be of interest if you want to get the boat splashed a day or two before, or on the back end before loading back up.

Thanks for the info-very helpful! If a So Cal gathering comes together we will plan accordingly. It’s feeling like a perfect excuse to go to Catalina🙂

I would love that!! I am a new 228 owner in San Diego!!

I expect to take delivery of my new R25 within the next 60 days. I'm in Santa Barbara and would love to participate in a SoCal Rendezvous!

I’m interested, home ported in Portland Oregon but I could be talked into trailing south.
