I spoke with Garmin support just yesterday. There is a known problem with the download of the new G3 Vision maps, with many owners reporting the download just stops part way through. Garmin has posted on their website that they are working on a solution, but no predicted cure date is provided.
My call was to confirm (as I was told by the Garmin rep at the SWF Rendezvous) that I would be provided the G3 Vision card at no cost, having just purchased the G2 Vision card in Oct. Garmin support first asked if I had registered both my chartplotter, a 7212 (which I had) and G2 Vision card (which I had not). Garmin support then told me that once I register my G2 Vision card, I would be able to download the G3 maps for free.
Since I already had autorouting from the G2 Vision card, Garmin support says the only changes I will see after the download will be the Navionics chart information/improved maps.
